The Ruwenzori, also spelled Rwenzori and Rwenjura, or Rwenzururu are a range of mountains in eastern equatorial Africa, located on the border between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Mount Rwenzori stands as the third tallest mountain range in Africa after Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya. The mountain features six main peaks that are kept apart by very deep gorges including; the highest Mount Stanley 5,109m (16,763 ft.), Mount Speke 4,890m, Mount Baker rising to 4,843m, Mount Emini rising to 4,798m, Mount Gessi towering to 4,715m and Mount Luigi di Savoia rising to 4,627m. On this 11 days Mt. Rwenzori climbing you will get a chance to explore the best of the ranges including the 3 highest summits in the Rwenzoris namely Mount Margerita, the highest peak of Mount Stanly (5,109m above sea level), Mount Speke (4,890m above sea level) and Mount Baker (4,844m above sea level). Itinerary
You will be collected from Entebbe airport or your lodge to Kasese early in the morning by our company driver guide who will greet and brief you about the whole journey. You will have some few stopovers for refreshments and lunch as you enjoy the beautiful views of tea plantations, forests, banana plantations, and views of the Rwenzori Mountains in Kasese when the weather is clear. Expect to have a journey that will last for about 7 to 9 hours before you will arrive late in the afternoon to check into your hotel and enjoy your evening stay.

Very early in the morning after your breakfast, you will check out of your hotel and transfer to Mihunga Park gate for some briefing before your hiking may start off. Accompanied by your company guides, porters, and chef the day’s hike to Nyabitaba Camp will start.
You will hike through montane forest vegetation, crossing the Kyoho River through the Kyoho Bridge and Mahoma River through the Mahoma Bridge. This hike will last for about 3 to 5 hours in reference to your hiking pace. Enroute, expect to see the 3-horned chameleon, the black and white colobus monkeys, the vervet monkeys, and plenty of bird species.

Have an early breakfast at 7:00 am to start off your hike at 8:00 am in the morning. You will start your Hike from Nyabitaba Hut and then descend to Mubuku Valley. You will go through the Kurt Schaffer Bridge before climbing the heather zone to reach the resting point. Enjoy the heather trees with hanging moss and rocks on the sides covered by algae before reaching the boggy section.
Have another rest at Nyamuleju Camp before proceeding through a tough boggy section and thereafter climb to John Matte Camp. The hike may take 7 to 9 hours long depending on your walking pace. You will arrive late in the afternoon for a hot lunch in the camp and rest as you contemplate for another day. On a clear day you can see the peak of Margerita from the camp.

On this day, you will move along the trail to cross the Bujuku River from John Matte camp. You will then enter the Lower Bigo Bog which is a home to the giant lobelias. The upper Bigo Bog will give you a way to Lake Bujuku with clear views of Mount Baker to the south and Mount Stanley to the west. We will cross all bogs on long boardwalks.
After a two hours trek through the bog around Lake Bujuku in the Bujuku Valley, arrive at the camp for a hot lunch and rest. This camp is good for acclimatization for clients attempting the summits of Mount Stanley and Mount Speke Peaks.

You will wake up early in the morning at 2 am to start off the hike through Stullmans Pass (4,192m above sea level). Have very good views of Virunga National Park of DR Congo to the Vittorio Emanuele peak (4,890m above sea level) which is the highest point on Mount Speke. It will take you about 4 to 5 hours to go up to the summit.
Prepare to go down back to Bujuku Camp from Vittorio Emanuele with views of the Bujuku Valley and Lake Bujuku, the Margherita and Albert Peaks on Mount Stanley, and also Mount Baker. The go down from the peak will take you around 3 to 4 hours in accordance to your trekking pace.

On this day 6, you will leave Bujuku Camp through more bogs along the trail while climbing the steep slopes west of the lake and through the magical forest of Groundsel Gully. Turn to your right up to Elena Hut and Mount Stanley on a steep trail over large boulders. You will then Hike through some slippery rocks before reaching Elena Hut. This hike will last for about 5 to 6 hours an estimated ascending height of about 579m for the day. You will rest at the camp as you wait, dinner and an overnight stay.

You will wake up early in the morning for breakfast. Then embark on an attempt to climb the highest peak of Mount Stanley in the Rwenzori Mountain ranges. This hike will roughly last for about 5 to 6 hours to reach unto the summit depending on the weather and the pace.
You will experience three glaciers, slippery rocks, ice and many more of exposed spaces. With your trekking gears and guides, experience an awesome abseiling on a rope that is carefully set by our experts. Before reaching Margherita Peak expect to climb through steep rocks and open boulders along the way. Getting back from Margherita Peak to Elena Hut will last for about 2 to 3 hours.
After a hot lunch at Elena Hut move down to Scott-Elliot Pass (4,372m above sea level) while enjoying spectacular views of Lake Bujuku and Mount Speke. This trail will take you through an alpine zone of sparse vegetation and rough boulders.
You will descend directly to the Kitandara camp placed on a very beautiful lake for dinner and overnight counting a transfer duration of about 3 to 4 hours.

You will wake up early in the morning to trek from Kitandara Camp through the Fresh Field Pass (4,215m above sea level) with views of DR Congo up to the Edward Peak (4,844m above sea level). To ascend this trek will take you 5 to 6 hours to the pic.
From Edward Peak get back to the Fresh Field Pass and then back to Kitandara Camp for an overnight stay in a duration of about 3 to 4 hours. This marks the final attempt to trek all the three peaks of your Rwenzori Mountains hike.

From Kitandara, take the trail that ascends steeply up the headwall, spreading out from the base of Mount Baker. Continue along the south side of the mountain to Fresh Field Pass (4,282m above sea level). At this point, you can view the Congo to the west and Mount Stanley to the north. From the pass, take on the long, high alpine moss.
Descend through the steep, rocky trail and the rock shelter at Bujongolo, the base camp for the historic expedition by the Duke of Abruzzi in 1906. You will go down on the long long ladders which the UWA has placed here for the decent. Arrive at Guy Yeoman Hut late in the afternoon for a hot lunch, dinner and an overnight stay. The duration of the hike is 6 to 7 hours. Around this camp, you'll be able to get a mobile service connection for emergency communication.

You'll descend from Guy Yeoman down the cliffs of Kichuchu. Beyond Kichuchu, the muddy path crosses the Mubuku River twice through a bamboo forest before climbing downwards to Nyabitaba to complete the circuit.
Descend back to Nyabitaba Camp and then to Mihunga Park gate to be picked up by your driver-guide. This marks the end of your Rwenzori climbing with a 3-peak summit expedition. The duration of the descent is 7 to 8 hours.
